As WordPress websites grow, so do their media libraries. Images, documents and other uploaded files can gradually consume a significant amount of server storage, making website management, backups and migrations more complicated.
At Proweb, we regularly work with WordPress websites that depend heavily on media. We wanted a practical way to separate media storage from the web server while keeping the WordPress experience familiar.
That’s why we developed Proweb Offload Media, our own WordPress media offloading solution, backed by Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront.
Why move WordPress media to the cloud?
By default, WordPress stores uploaded files on the same hosting environment as the website.
This works well for many websites. However, as media libraries expand, storing everything locally can introduce challenges:
- Growing storage requirements: Images and other media consume valuable web hosting space.
- Larger backups: Media files can increase backup sizes and the time required to complete them.
- More complicated migrations: Moving a website may involve transferring thousands of uploaded files.
- Limited flexibility: Website hosting and media storage become closely tied together.
Separating media storage from the web server provides a more flexible foundation for managing a growing website.
How Proweb Offload Media works
Proweb Offload Media integrates WordPress with cloud infrastructure managed by Proweb.
Amazon S3 provides object storage for supported media files, while Amazon CloudFront delivers those files through a global content delivery network (CDN).
The process is straightforward:
- WordPress manages the media library and uploaded files.
- Supported media files are stored in Amazon S3.
- Media URLs are served through Amazon CloudFront.
- Visitors retrieve media through the CDN rather than relying solely on the website’s hosting server.
The goal is to provide a cleaner separation between the website application and its media storage.
A fully managed service
One of our priorities was to make cloud media storage accessible without requiring customers to become AWS specialists.
With Proweb Offload Media, customers don’t need to create their own AWS account or configure S3 buckets and CloudFront distributions.
Proweb manages the cloud infrastructure and maintains the WordPress integration.
This includes:
- Managed Amazon S3 media storage
- CloudFront CDN delivery
- WordPress media offloading integration
- Plugin maintenance and updates
- Storage plans designed for different media library sizes
Does media offloading make WordPress faster?
Media offloading can reduce the burden of serving supported media files directly from a web server. CloudFront can also cache media closer to visitors.
However, moving media to cloud storage does not automatically guarantee a faster website or better Core Web Vitals scores.
Image optimisation, caching, hosting configuration and the overall WordPress implementation remain important.
We see media offloading as one part of a well-designed WordPress infrastructure, rather than a replacement for website performance optimisation.
Simple annual pricing
We’ve introduced three managed plans:
| Plan | Annual Price | Included Storage |
| Standard | EUR120 | 5GB |
| Business | EUR240 | 15GB |
| Premium | EUR360 | 30GB |
All prices exclude VAT. Plans are billed annually. Bandwidth is subject to fair-use terms, and initial setup, existing media migration or unusually high traffic may be quoted separately.
Each plan includes managed AWS infrastructure, CloudFront delivery and maintenance of the WordPress offloading integration.
Built and managed by Proweb
Proweb Offload Media reflects our approach to WordPress development: practical solutions, reliable infrastructure and ongoing technical support.
Rather than introducing unnecessary complexity, we’ve focused on making media storage easier to manage as websites grow.
